We love it when our visitors get involved with what goes on at the museum and there are loads of ways for you to do so…

Volunteering

There’s a huge range of volunteering opportunities at the Harris, in all departments of the museum. If you’d like to volunteer and share your skills with us or get some new ones, contact Rob Pratten, our Volunteer Co-ordinator, on 01772 905407.

Community Projects

We work with a range of local community groups on creative projects inspired by our collections, which aim to develop people’s skills and cultural knowledge. These projects also help us interpret our collections in new ways. If you want to get involved please call Kyra on 01772 905412. To find out more about our community projects click here.

Aged 12–18 years old? Want to get involved with museums?

Would you like to get involved with the Harris Museum & Art Gallery on a regular basis? Why not work towards an Arts Award qualification, or just enjoy taking part in exciting, creative projects! Don’t miss out on the chance to interpret our collections and help to make the Harris a better place to visit

What is an Arts Award?

We are now registered as a centre for running the Arts Awards, with a trained Arts Award adviser on site. The Arts Award is a national qualification available to young people aged 11–25. The award aims to support young people in their development as artists and arts leaders and embraces all cultural interests and backgrounds. If you’re interested just ring Kyra on 01772 905412 or email her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Become a Friend of the Harris Museum & Art Gallery

For only £7 per year, Friends receive regular information including invitations to all our exhibition openings and the chance to participate in special social activities such as visits, talks and concerts. Application forms are available from the museum, please call if you'd like us to post one to you.

Reminiscence Work

We currently run bi-monthly reminiscence sessions in three local care homes for the elderly and mentally ill. The sessions, ran by trained Harris Museum volunteers, use objects taken from our collections and aim to mentally stimulate the residents of the homes, promoting recollection of memories and improving quality of life. For more information on this project, contact Rob Pratten or Kyra Milnes on 01772 905412 or 905407.

Inspiring Learning

We offer a range of inspirational learning opportunities for schools, colleges and adult or community groups. To plan your next visit or to find out more about the options for group visits, call our Education Team on 01772 905405 and we’ll help plan your day.
