Harry Potter: A History of Magic Displays

BL image from J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter books

Displays in the Community History Library
20 October – 30 December 2017

The Harry Potter: A History of Magic public library displays are inspired by the British Library Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition.

The displays include images of items featured in the British Library’s exhibition, including rare books, manuscripts and magical objects, as well as copies of materials from J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury’s own collections. Local connections to magic and folklore will also be showcased, including amazing physical items from local library collections. The displays have been developed through the Living Knowledge Network, an innovative partnership between the British Library and 22 major libraries across the UK, and in partnership with the National Library of Scotland and the National Library of Wales.

The displays celebrate and explore the historical, folkloric and mythological origins of magic that J. K. Rowling draws on in the creation of her wizarding world.  It also celebrates the 20-year legacy of the publishing phenomenon of Harry Potter.  Visitors will find themselves in an atmospheric Hogwarts-style study, decorated with leather-bound books from the Harris’ historic collections and other magical necessities with local connections to magic and folklore also showcased.

Find this in our Community History library on the first floor and look out for Harry Potter events taking place throughout.

There will also be special family events taking place throughout the exhibition.
