Picture the Poet

Lemn Sissay by Madeleine Waller © Madeleine Waller / National Portrait Gallery, London

24 January - 11 April

Discover the faces behind today's poets in this photography exhibition from the National Portrait Gallery.

See striking images of some of today’s most important poets, such as Benjamin Zephaniah, Dame Carol Ann Duffy, Ian McMillian, Sophie Hannah, Michael Rosen, and Lemn Sissay, writer of the 2012 Preston Guild Anthem.

50 poets are featured in the exhibition, their faces captured by acclaimed photographers including Madeleine Waller, Jemimah Kufeld, Donald McLellan, and Maud Sulter – a poet and photographer who lived in Preston for a time and has links to UCLan.

Re-discover your love of poetry at one of our FREE events taking place during the exhibition, including Hindi Rag and Gujarati Mushaira performances, the chance to pass on a favourite poem, plus a very special event on the eve of World Poetry Day - Apples and Snakes presents: Picture the Poet Live – featuring a live performance by one of the poets in the exhibition. Full details on our events page.
