Until September 2012
The Harris Museum & Art Gallery and students of Ceramics and Contemporary Craft at UCLan have created a new Preston Guild ceramics exhibition in the Museum’s Café gallery.
Influenced by the Harris Museum ceramics collection and of the history, and future of Preston Guild, the students designed and produced their own unique Guild ceramics. They worked with Harris staff to design ceramics around the theme of Preston Guild, and examples of historic Guild memorabilia in the Harris Guild collection. They have also taken inspiration from the city itself, producing both sculptural and functional ceramics.
Stephanie Murfin, Keeper of Decorative Art at the Harris said:
“ I am delighted to display the achievements of Contemporary Crafts and Ceramics undergraduate students at UCLan and engage them in the exhibition programme here during such an important period in the history of Preston. The pieces were chosen from a number put forward for selection, for their relationships with the historic Guild ceramics collections in the Harris Ceramics and Glass Gallery.”
Pieces include Baa by Christopher Hodge, which presents a new take on the Preston Lamb, and Hard Times: Strong Women by Mary Morgan, which acknowledges the role of women in the history of Preston. The exhibition is currently on display at the Harris, and will remain in the Harris Café gallery until after Preston Guild in September.
