What does Courtaulds mean to you?

Courtaulds factory by Noel Coombes

Wednesday 12 July

Do you work at Red Scar?
Did you or your family member work at Courtaulds?
We are inviting anyone with links to Courtaulds Ltd or Red Scar Business Park in Ribbleton to contribute to a new partnership with the Courtauld Gallery in London. The event will feature the history of the factory and its site alongside French Impressionist paintings, one of which will come to Preston in 2018. This is your chance to share memories, explore the history of Courtaulds and help choose one of the shortlisted paintings to go on display at the Harris.

Courtaulds Ltd (now the site of Red Scar Business Park in Ribbleton) made rayon fibre and employed thousands of people from 1939 until its closure and demolition in the early 1980s.

We are working in partnership with the Courtauld Gallery to explore the links with the Courtauld Gallery's world famous collection of French Impressionist paintings. For the first time, this project will bring one of the Courtauld Gallery's paintings to Preston. The collection includes paintings by some of the world's best known artists such as Claude Monet, Edgar Degas and Paul Cezanne´. This event will be the last opportunity to help choose which of the 7 shortlisted paintings goes on display next year.
